was an unclaimed stray. He's big and beautiful not to mention
a really really nice boy. Doesn't walk super well on leash but
he's otherwise a gentle giant. We say "no cats" just
because most of our dogs with unknown history are designated as
cat unfriendly unless proven otherwise. His tail is docked and
ears are natural. He weighs about 73 pounds. He appears well housetrained,
so he may well have been someone's beloved pet - possibly given
up for some reason and his original owners may have thought he
was well cared for. Having now brought him with us to PetSmart
for an offsite, we find that he's got an attitude with large dogs
more or less...shepherds, chocolate lab, one labradoodle, but
just loves wrestling with the smaller ones -like chihuahuas and
chugs (pug chihuahua) and pekes.... Doesn't seem to have much
interest in cats until they run... so we'd still think a home
without cats ..."
"Drake was unfortunate
to have been an unclaimed stray who also had a physical issue
- he couldn't walk well or hold his head up- he would lie down
when on leash and cry if he was pulled - his back legs were chewed
raw - and yet he was such a superb dog that the shelter staff
wanted to save his life rather than euthanize him. We agreed to
take him on - thinking he was around 5-7 years old and in really
bad condition. we thought we'd just feed him and love on him and
let him go to the bridge in aweek or so. He didn't think so. Judie
thought he was wobblers' syndrome- and started him immediately
on Prednisone. three days later when he saw our vet, Drake was
walking and holding his head up. So the doc said give him another
2 weeks on the same program .... we did...and Drake did his thing.
It's now months later- his leg injuries (probably from nerve irritation
from a disc issue in his neck) are healed. His head is held high.
He runs like a deer. Likes his play yard friend, Bingo. And now
he's ready to go to a real home. He will need to be on low dose
prednisone for the rest of his life. We hate using it that long,
but 5 mg two times a week holds him very well. He cannot wear
a collar with leash. He does well with a harness or a sporn. Sooo-
anybody out there who wants this lovely boy?"

Poor guy was skin and bones a month ago. He's now not looking
bad at all but still could use a tad more pounds. He's not crazy
about most other male dogs- probably the result of bad encounters
with the ones who put the scars on his head and chest.... He's
vaccinated, heartworm clear, neutered, microchipped, wormed and
hates being outside. He likes lounging in an open crate - guess
that's his "safety spot". Is a very nice boy. He's probably
housetrained too....Right now he's not too interested in cats."
